The Joint Rules Committee, Assembly Member Paul Krekorian, California State Parks and the State Capitol Museum present the William Saroyan Centennial Exhibit, July 2 – August 24, 2008. This traveling exhibit honors Armenian-American author and playwright William Saroyan as part of a year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of his birth.
Black and white photos of Saroyan by Armenian photographer Boghos Boghossian are accompanied by excerpts from his works. The exhibit is curated by Varoujan Der Simonian of the Armenian Heritage Museum of Fresno, CA. Photographer Boghos Boghossian was born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1941. He became the official photographer for many of the newspapers in Armenia and the former Soviet Union. He has participated in numerous international competitions and has received several awards for his work.
Boghossian accompanied William Saroyan during the author’s last two visits to Armenia in 1976 and 1978. He took more than one thousand black and white photos, a selection of which are on exhibit in the State Capitol Museum. More than any other recognition he has received, the artist cherishes Saroyan’s autograph, which describes him as “a poet of the camera.” Boghossian still lives and works in Yerevan, Armenia. |
